THE EXILES

Was the convict port of Botany Bay to be the journey's end for young Jenny Taggart? Her father long dead, murdered by the landlord; she and her mother were thrown off their land. They fled to London, as so many other poor country people were forced to do, unprepared for what they would find there.
   She grew up in a pub, frequented by thieves of all descriptions.   After her mother's tragic imprisonment for harbouring a highwayman, it seemed that nothing worse could befall Jenny, until she herself was wrongly accused of receiving stolen goods and sentenced to be transported as a convict to New South Wales.
   Surviving the treacherous trip, in a ship which was part of the First Fleet, she arrived in Sydney. In this new land called Australia she used her farming skills remembered from an all but lost childhood and, eagerly learning from the Aborigines, she set out to build a life for herself and her friends. . . 
   THE EXILES is the first volume in a six part series describing the pioneers who carve a life for themselves out of the rough and violent new colony that will become Australia.
