Book Sizing Guide
Not sure what size a book is? Our sizing guide gives you a general idea of the different paperback formats you may come across in our store.
Please note that book sizes can vary slightly between publishers, editions and countries, so the measurements below are approximate.
📖 Pocket-Sized Paperback
Approx. 10.5--11 cm × 17--18 cm
Small, lightweight and easy to carry. Pocket-sized paperbacks are designed for portability and are often a great fit for a handbag, small bag or travel.
📚 Standard Paperback
Approx. 11--13 cm × 18--20 cm
The familiar paperback size used for many novels and general fiction. These are smaller than trade paperbacks but larger than pocket-sized editions.
📘 Standard Hardcover
Approx. 14 × 21 cm
A traditional hardcover format commonly used for standard adult novels.
These books have a rigid protective cover and are generally a little larger and sturdier than their paperback counterparts.
📕 Trade Paperback
Approx. 13--15.5 cm × 20--23.5 cm
A larger paperback format with a bigger page size and usually a more spacious reading layout. Trade paperbacks are common across fiction, nonfiction and contemporary novels.
📙 Trade Hardcover
Approx. 15.5 × 23.5 cm
A larger hardcover format commonly used for adult novels, particularly newer releases and higher-end editions.
Trade hardcovers generally have a larger page size than standard hardcovers, giving the book a more substantial feel.
A little extra information
Book sizes can vary even within the same format. Different publishers, editions, countries of publication and publication years may use slightly different dimensions.
Some books--such as children's books, illustrated books, reference books, coffee-table books and special editions--may also fall outside the typical size ranges listed above.
