I'm Pip, and Karen, Angie and Irina are my best friends. Music is our obsession and we've formed a band called Not Perfect.

Not Perfect sums up our lives too (except maybe for Angie, who already has the perfect life). Irina's parents are Russian and they expect so much from her. Karen's parents are divorced and she moves between living with her mum, and with her dad and his new wife - and feels like she doesn't have a home. And me? My parents are together, but only just.

Coping with all of this on top of boys, parties and school is almost too much. Especially when Not Perfect are meant to be performing for the first time ever at the mid-year school concert, and after that there's the Breakers Festival. Will we ever make it that far?

That's Why I Wrote This Song tells the story of four very different girls, united by a passion for music.
